Welcome to April's round-up of things to fill your calendar with! This is a strong month for big bands, as on Tuesday you will get to see the Glasgow University Big Band and the Byres Road Big Band perform together for their annual Jazz Extravaganza, and you can catch the Sam Every (Little) Big Band at LayLow the Tuesday after.

Following a long and indeterminate break, the Jazz at the 78 sessions are back with their first jam having taken place only a few days ago. The jams will be monthly on the last Thursday of the month.

Another new session is the What Happens When..? series hosted at The Rum Shack, where artists from different musical backgrounds are invited to collaborate over a theme, to observe the result of unexpected musical cocktails. The first edition will take place on the 15th, and is dedicated to Glaswegian poet Helen Adam.

Should you be looking for some more thought-intensive approaches to music and performance, RCS is hosting three exchange talks throughout the month as well as two showcases of contemporary performance (Fields of Performance and PLUG Festival), that are certain to kick-start your imagination.
