We have another exciting month ahead of us regarding all things jazz and improv. Make sure to keep the end of November clear in your diaries, as we have both the sixteenth edition of GIOfest, the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra’s annual festival taking place at the CCA, and the Jazz at the Glad Festival at The Glad Café. Additionally, we have three opportunities to see Tom McGuire & The Brassholes at St Lukes so if you’ve missed them before, this is your chance. However, anyone wanting to see Ezra Collective at Barrowland is not so lucky as it’s long been sold out, but keep your eyes peeled in case you see a resale ticket pop up. Finally, If you fancy a change of scenery, don’t hesitate to pop down to The Bungalow in Paisley to see Kai Reesu, warmed up by Laundryroom.

I’ve included several listings in this month’s edition which don’t necessarily have much to do with either jazz or improv, but which I felt compelled to advertise nonetheless. Firstly, we have Blue Now at Tramway, in a collaboration with The Hunterian and the University of Glasgow. This live performance addresses living through the AIDS epidemic and bearing its lifelong consequences. Following this, we have Amy Hollinrake at The Glad Café, whose feminist folk highlights women’s narratives throughout folklore and mythology. At Bloc+, you can shake out your limbs from the weight of the patriarchy by attending Female Funk Fruition, a women-focussed hip hop session. At last, if you want to rethink your understanding of jamming and improvising, be sure to attend the Contact Improvisation Jam at the CCA to undergo a more corporeal experience of those two concepts that seem so familiar to us.
